We're Here!

This is going to be very quick....only a couple of minutes on internet. We arrived safely and on time - our second leg was heavenly - a half filled air bus - plenty of room to stretch out. We arrived at our hotel at precisely 12:00 midnight and were greeted by the hotel power being thrown off while the fireworks exploded - hundreds of squealing children. It couldn't have been more perfect. Our hosts are incredibly hospitable and helpful. Everyone is well and many slept while traveling...of course, I watched 4 movies...Lonnie and I agree that you just can't sleep while in a plane, train or automobile. We've wished Cindy a Happy 60th already and the music is blaring outside so we could have quite a party, if we had the energy to walk downstairs.

Tomorrow we worship together with our hosts in a New Year's service - we've been asked to give testimonies and Jimmy will preach. Some of our college students will sing. We'll return to the hotel for lunch then will do some sightseeing. This is quite an incredible place!

More later...outta time. Love and miss you all!

Hey Everyone~
I just got off the phone with Kyle and he wanted me to let everyone know that they made it to Atalnta. They were rushed to make it through security and get to the gate on time! I guess that is par for the course when you are traveling with 19 people! He said he would call me when they arrive in Amsterdam. I will keep you posted!

We're Really Going to Uganda!

Although December 25, 2008, is now history, it's wonderful to continue feeling the warmth of the season and the closeness of friends and family as we enter into the final 72 hours before departure to Uganda. Being psychologically focused has been somewhat difficult for me because of the busyness of the last weeks...I'm praying for some time of solitude and quiet over the next couple of days. Kyle and I look forward to staying connected with you through this blogspot. If you would like to respond to us, and we hope you will, it will be necessary to set up an account....Hey, Kyle...will you post some instructions?!?!

Thank-You FUMC!

FUMC Albany continues to support our mission. Most recently with The Pathfinders Sunday School Class donating almost 100 pairs of reading glasses to be given to patients of the vision clinics. Thank you, Pathfinders and others who have donated sunglasses and reading glasses.

Mixed Emotions

Things are shaping up for the Boyd's trip to Uganda a little differently than originally planned! On the day of our final Uganda team meeting, Leslie learned that she is expecting her and Kyle's first child. The entire family is elated! Of course, this initiated a flurry of calls to physicians, intense research, and a flood of raw emotions. After over a week of praying, Leslie has determined that she is more at peace with not going to Uganda than with going. She and Kyle (along with their families and friends) have been praying for a baby for over two years and they have determined that staying at home is the safest option for both baby and mother. I have such mixed emotions although the excitement over "our baby" far outweighs the disappointment I feel over not sharing this experience with Leslie. Kyle and Leslie have decided that Kyle will continue with his plans to travel to Uganda and of course, I am thrilled to be able to minister to the children and displaced persons of Uganda with my youngest son just before he welcomes his firstborn into our world. Wow, what a blessing! We're now busy packing little dresses and flip-flops, finishing up our vaccinations, determining how to pack minimal personal items to allow room for maximum necessities, and preparing ourselves for what God has called us to do! We covet your prayers for our team, and most especially Leslie, as she nurtures her precious gift from God while dealing with the disappointment of not being able to travel with the team with which she has already bonded and grown to love.

First Methodist Wednesday Night Supper- Humble Way Dresses

On Wednesday October 29, 2008, we had the pleasure of receiving these hand made dresses from some VERY special women of FUMC. Not only are we hand delivering 130 dresses but we also have hand made flipflops that will be handed out as well. The Boyd's want to personally thank each person involved  in this effort, as we could not have done it with out you!
